Nobody really likes to be examined – put to the test. It is, however, a necessary part of life. If we want things to be right, they need to be checked, tested and corrected!
God says: “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? — Unless indeed you are disqualified” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
How do we examine ourselves? What is the standard? The answer is in the verse: as to whether you are in the faith.”
The word faith is not referring to our own faith – whether or not we believe. The question is whether or not we are in the faith. That refers to the faith (God has) revealed. We must examine ourselves and determine whether or not we are thinking, speaking, walking, living and behaving as the faith instructs. That is not complicated but it is hard. It can be humiliating and painful.
Am I living according to the standard of Christ as revealed in the faith? Let’s examine ourselves. Let me know if you would like to talk about this further.
