Faith comes by hearing the word of God – Romans 10:17. |
Some may not be impressed by this claim. How can hearing the word make you a believer in it? Shouldn’t there be outside evidence? There is an abundance of “outside” evidence: archaeological confirmation, fulfillment of prophecy, and the testimony of ancient documents. However, the greatest proof is in the book itself.
Consider this: You trust people based on an advertisement, references, certificates and other tests of reliability. But real confidence in other people is built by a long-term relationship of watching, listening and engaging them. You find them to be reliable. So much of what they tell you is confirmed to be true that you trust what they say even when you may not be able to confirm that. After a while, you get the sense that a person knows what he is talking about. His suggestions are always the wise choice. You may find that he does not act selfishly toward you but that he has your best interest at heart. You have strong faith and confidence in a person because you know them.
The same is true of God’s word. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. Read the Bible. Listen carefully to what God says. You can trust Him.
