Hungering and Thirsting for Righteousness.

Jesus said:  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).  Hunger and thirst are blessings because they push one to get what is desperately needed for survival.  If you hunger and thirst for righteousness Jesus promises that you will be filled.  You will get what you need and all you need.  We know that in our world people do not always get what they need.  Jesus promises that righteousness is available to one desperately seeking.  In scripture righteousness refers to right living or godliness.  It also refers to righteousness that is revealed — the word.  Another application of the word is the innocence one receives in forgiveness.  Three things we desperately need that we will receive if we truly hunger and thirst for them:  God’s truth, forgiveness and godliness.  Without those three things we starve to spiritual death.  They are available.  Am I hungry and thirsty for righteousness?
