Are You A Peacemaker?

Jesus said:  “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).  I picture myself mediating between two parties at odds with each other, telling them to calm down and forgive.  What a noble idea.  However, that is not what Jesus means.  Peacemakers are called sons of God because they are like their Father, the Great Peacemaker.  God makes peace with His own enemies, sinful people.  He does that by suffering the loss, paying the price and forgiving those who have offended Him.  The peacemakers in this verse are not negotiators for others.  These peacemakers are creating a way of peace with others by enduring the hurt, extending themselves, forgiving and doing whatever can be done to be reconciled.  “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”
